Actions in Response to Results

Academic Engagement and Achievement

Enhance program structure and curriculum in preparation for CSWE reaffirmation

a. MSW faculty will be assigned specific roles and responsibilities to contribute towards Reaffirmation process. Faculty will work to align SACS 5th year report with CSWE requirements to maximize efficiency and ensure compliance with both accrediting bodies.

b. Faculty will collectively work to develop competency based rubrics to ensure practice behaviors are being assessed consistently across the program.

i.  Completed SACS assessment plans and reports aligned to CSWE 2015 EPAS

ii.Competency based rubric descriptions

i.  100% of SACS assessment plans and reports will be completed

ii.Rubrics established for competencies/PSLOs (6-9)

TARGET PARTIALLY  MET

SACS assessment plans were completed for the 2015-2016 AY, but reports were not completed on time due to faculty not submitting information in a timely manner.

Faculty pulled together various rubrics that might be helpful in designing rubric criteria and levels. Faculty have begun working on the rubrics but none have been completed.

OVERALL: TARGET PARTIALLY  MET

Description of the expected use of results that will be addressed in the 2016-2017 academic year: Faculty will complete assessment plans and reports during the 2016-2017 AY by the institutional deadlines. Faculty will participate in workshops/trainings offered by SSU Academic Affairs office to ensure that plans and reports are submitted in the required format.

Starting Spring 2017, MSW faculty will be required to collect and grade all benchmark assignments in Live Text (D2L can/will continue to be used as well). These changes are necessary to guide efficient future assessment planning and reporting.

Faculty will continue to work on developing competency based rubrics during the 2016-2017 AY. Rubrics are expected to be completed and used to assess benchmark assignments starting Spring 2017.

Academic Engagement and Achievement

Increase the use of technology to enhance and assess instructional delivery in the classroom and field practicum

a. Faculty will assess courses offered online in 2014-2015 AY and make data informed revisions as needed.

b. Field faculty and staff will launch Leve Text FEM, web based platform to collect, analyze, and report field experience data.

i.  # of courses that are offered fully online from 2013-2014 AY as evidenced by course offerings

ii.# of students with registered FEM accounts

i.    100% of courses offered online in 2014-2015 AY will be offered again.

ii.   100% of field students will actively use Live Text to record field hours.

iii. 80% of agency based field supervisors will utilize Live Text FEM to submit student performance evaluations

TARGET MET

100% of courses offered fully online and hybrid courses continue to be offered in those formats. Students have verbalized an appreciation for online classes. Faculty discussed the need to assess online courses to see if any significant differences in student performance exist based on course format (in-person v/s online)

100% of agency based field students and field supervisors are utilizing Live Text FEM to record students time and complete performance evaluations.

OVERALL: TARGET MET

Description of the expected use of results that will be addressed in the 2016-2017 academic year: Faculty will continue to adapt more courses so that they are offered in a fully online format. Faculty will vote and decide on whether or not to add a fully online MSW program during the 2016-2017 AY.

Starting Spring 2017, MSW faculty will be required to collect and grade all benchmark assignments in Live Text (D2L can/will continue to be used as well.

The office of Field Education will continue to use LiveText FEM to collect, report, and analyze field data.

Academic Engagement and Achievement

Increase local and global outreach and visibility by fostering lifelong learning and engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the SSU community

a.   The Office of Field Education will engaged in targeted outreach to recruit additional field placement agencies for students to complete practicum placements.

vi.  1 Signature event established

i.      4 new field placements will be established.

ii.    A minimum of 2 training/workshop will be offered to students, alumni, and professionals in the community.

iii.   At least 4 students will travel abroad

iv.   40% of students, faculty and alumni will attend signature event.

TARGET MET

A total of 5 new agencies entered into MOUs with the Department this year. Drs. Samuel, Deloach, and Tuggle obtained a SAMHSA funded grant to increase knowledge of Substance Abuse, HIV/AIDS, and Hep. C on campus and in the community. This is a result of the existing BHSP grant and the new SA/HIV/AIDS, and Hep. C grant, the department has been able to offer two trainings and conferences to the community. Several additional trainings are planned for the 2016-2017 AY.

In March 2016, 2 graduate students traveled abroad for an Alternative Spring Break in Trinidad and Tobago (10 undergraduate students also participated). In Summer 2016, 5 graduate students participated in the 5 week summer abroad program to Ghana and Liberia. This was the largest group of graduate students participating in the summer study abroad program.

Students and faculty continued to participate in the annual VA Stand Down, World Food Day, and Make a Difference Day. Students also traveled to Atlanta to participate in Social Work Advocacy Day at the Capital were they had an opportunity to meet with elected officials and advocate for various health and human services policies.

The planned signature event for students, faculty and alumni was a homecoming tailgate. However the tailgate did not occur to delays in getting all required materials and supplies in a timely manner.

OVERALL: TARGET MET
